Hi, I’m Dr. Nate (just Nate is fine). I’m a licensed mental health counselor in Indiana and Florida with over 15 years of experience. I have a PhD from William & Mary and a master’s in counseling from East Tennessee State University. Counseling isn’t just my profession—it’s a core part of how I understand the world.
I see life through the lens of relationships — both the ones we have with others and the ones we have with ourselves. I understand how difficult it can feel to navigate struggles with anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and self-worth. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, connected, and at ease as you work through life’s challenges.
My Approach
I take a collaborative, strengths-based approach to therapy, using evidence-based methods to help you build a more balanced and meaningful life.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) Motivational Interviewing and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: Helping you develop mindfulness and accept difficult emotions without letting them control your life.
Narrative Therapy: Supporting you in reshaping the stories you tell yourself and discovering new ways to relate to your experiences.
Attachment-Based Therapy: Helping you understand how your early relationships shape current patterns and connection styles.
For couples, I believe that connection and safety are paramount, so, I pull from: Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT): Strengthening emotional bonds and improving communication.
The Gottman Method: Offering practical tools to navigate conflict, build trust, and deepen intimacy.
Therapy with me isn’t about fixing you — because you’re not broken. It’s about helping you navigate thoughts and emotions, rewrite unhelpful stories, and build healthier patterns so you can create a life that feels meaningful and true to you.
What I Specialize In
I work with individuals and couples navigating:
- Anxiety, ADHD, and depression
- Religious trauma and deconstruction
- Relationship challenges (including monogamous, polyamorous, and LGBTQ+ relationships)
- Self-worth, perfectionism, and identity exploration
My practice is inclusive and affirming of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and relationship structures. Whether you’re navigating life transitions, exploring your identity, or seeking deeper self-awareness, therapy is a space where you can feel safe, supported, and free from judgment.
What You Can Expect
Our work together is about more than managing symptoms — it’s about helping you feel empowered to create the life you want.
- We’ll work together to uncover the patterns that are holding you back.
- You’ll gain practical tools to navigate difficult emotions and strengthen your relationships.
- You’ll develop greater self-compassion and clarity so you can move through life with confidence and purpose.
Therapy is not about perfection — it’s about presence. Growth happens when you feel supported enough to take small, meaningful steps toward change.
A Bit About Me
Beyond therapy, I wear many hats: I’m a father, a friend, a cat dad, and an endlessly curious person. I dive deep into all kinds of interests — from building guitars and speedcubing to learning languages, coding, and photography. These passions remind me that growth is always possible, no matter where we are in life.
I believe we’re never “finished” as people. Life is a constant process of learning and evolving — and with effort, practice, and self-compassion, we can move closer to the life we want.

Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started with Therapy
1. How do I know if therapy is right for me?
Therapy is for anyone who wants support, clarity, or personal growth. If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or want to improve your relationships (including the one with yourself), therapy can help. You don’t need to have a mental health diagnosis to benefit—just a willingness to explore and grow.
2. What can I expect in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. I’ll ask about what’s bringing you to therapy, your background, and what you hope to get out of our work together. There’s no pressure—we’ll move at your pace and create a space where you feel comfortable and heard.
3. How long does therapy usually last?
Therapy is different for everyone. Some clients come for a few months to work through a specific challenge, while others find ongoing support beneficial for deeper growth. We’ll discuss your goals and check in regularly to see what feels right for you.
4. How often will we meet for sessions?
Most clients start with weekly or biweekly sessions, depending on their needs. As progress is made, we may space sessions out more. I’ll work with you to find a schedule that feels supportive and sustainable.
5. Do you offer in-person or virtual sessions?
I offer virtual therapy for clients in Indiana and Florida, allowing you to access support from the comfort of your home.
Therapy Process & Approach
6. What therapy approaches do you use?
I take a collaborative, strengths-based approach, drawing from:
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) – Helps you navigate thoughts and emotions while moving toward your values.
Narrative Therapy – Supports you in rewriting the stories you tell about yourself in an empowering way.
Attachment-Based Therapy – Helps explore how early relationships impact current emotional and relational patterns.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) & Gottman Method (for relationships) – Strengthens emotional connection and communication between partners.
7. Do you specialize in working with certain issues or populations?
Yes! I work with individuals and partners dealing with:
Anxiety, ADHD, and depression
Religious trauma and deconstruction
Relationship challenges (including monogamous, polyamorous, and LGBTQ+ relationships)
Self-worth, perfectionism, and identity exploration
8. What’s the difference between individual therapy and relationship counseling?
Individual therapy focuses on your personal growth, emotions, and patterns, while relationship counseling supports you and your partner(s) in navigating challenges together. Both approaches can lead to deeper self-awareness and more fulfilling relationships.
9. Can I come to therapy even if I don’t have a mental health diagnosis?
Absolutely! Therapy is about growth, self-discovery, and support—not just managing mental health conditions. Many clients come to explore life transitions, self-confidence, or relationship patterns.
10. What if my partner doesn’t want to attend couples therapy?
Couples therapy works best when all partners are engaged, but if your partner isn’t ready, individual therapy can still help you gain clarity, strengthen communication skills, and make meaningful changes in your relationships.
Practical & Financial Information
11. Do you accept insurance?
Yes, I accept insurance in Indiana and Florida. Coverage varies by provider, so I recommend checking with your insurance company about your mental health benefits.
12. What if I don’t have insurance—do you offer sliding scale fees?
I offer private pay options and a limited number of sliding-scale spots based on financial need. Reach out to discuss what works best for you.
13. How much does each session cost?
Session fees depend on the type of therapy and insurance coverage. Contact me for specific rates, and I’ll be happy to go over options with you.
14. What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept ACH, credit/debit cards, and HSA/FSA payments. Payment is processed at the time of each session.
15. What is your cancellation and rescheduling policy?
I ask for at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations or reschedules. Late cancellations or missed sessions may incur a fee.
Confidentiality & Privacy
16. Is therapy confidential?
Yes! What we discuss stays between us. The only exceptions are if there’s a risk of harm to yourself or others, or in cases of abuse or court-ordered disclosures. I’ll always explain these limits clearly.
17. Are there any situations where confidentiality cannot be maintained?
Confidentiality is protected except in cases of:
Immediate danger to yourself or others
Child, elder, or dependent adult abuse
Court orders requiring disclosure
If any of these situations arise, I will discuss them with you first whenever possible.
18. Do you offer therapy for minors? If so, do parents have access to their records?
I primarily work with adults, but if you’re looking for teen therapy, I’d be happy to provide referrals to trusted colleagues.
Special Considerations
19. Do you work with LGBTQ+ clients and diverse relationship structures?
Yes! My practice is inclusive and affirming of all gender identities, sexual orientations, and relationship structures—including monogamous, polyamorous, and open relationships. Therapy is a space where you can explore your identity, relationships, and experiences without judgment.
20. What if I’ve had a bad experience with therapy before? Can we talk about that?
Absolutely. If you’ve had a therapist who wasn’t a good fit or an approach that didn’t work for you, I want to hear about it. We’ll work together to create a therapy experience that feels safe, validating, and effective for you.
